Test of UVic Emergency Alerts to take place August 20

UVic Emergency Alerts is a new system that allows the university to quickly and efficiently contact students and employees with important information and instructions during an emergency. The system allows UVic to send messages to members of the university community by email, telephone and mobile text messaging. Preliminary testing of the system has been completed, and the first campus-wide test of UVic Emergency Alerts will take place Wednesday, August 20. All messages will be identified as test messages only. Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to complete a short online post-test survey. UVic sustainability wins another gold

The Canada Green Building Council has conferred gold level status in its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating program on UVic’s Engineering/Computer Science Building.

Workplace bullying focus of conference

Two of the world’s foremost authorities on bullying will be in Victoria in November to speak on combating bullying and psychological harassment in the workplace. Dr. Gary Namie and Barbara Coloroso will speak as part of the Creating Respectful Workplaces Conference at the University of Victoria. Both presentations are open to the public and tickets are on sale Aug 12.

The new University of Victoria Continuing Studies Fall 2008 calendar includes 50 new courses for adult learners who want to explore new interests or build and advance their careers.
