Government opens UVic climate change research building

The University of Victoria's $66.6-million Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences building, which will provide a home for the university's internationally renowned climate change researchers, was opened officially Nov. 24, adding another world-class research facility to the campus. Bob Wright, president and CEO, Oak Bay Marine Group of Companies (above with wife Yun Kloihofer), donated $10 million toward the cost of the building, to be known as the Bob Wright Centre.

UVic and CRD have energy in common

The Capital Regional District (CRD) will get some fast answers about alternative energy based on a University of Victoria presentation next week. On Tuesday, Dec. 2, a class of environmental studies and mechanical engineering students will present its findings on how the CRD can diversify the region's energy supply to address climate change.

Annual day for remembrance

Next week, the University of Victoria community and the public will gather together to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. The ceremony, on Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m., honours the memory of the 14 young women who were murdered at l’Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal Dec. 6, 1989.
