Faculty Opportunities

Research support
The Office of Research Services (ORS) supports the innovative and leading edge research being conducted at the University of Victoria by our world class researchers. ORS staff provide UVic faculty with advice about research opportunities and assistance with research proposals.

Learning and Teaching Centre
The University of Victoria strategic plan (Building on Strength, 2007) emphasizes the provision of support to faculty in "the development of excellence in teaching" (Objective 12a). The Learning and Teaching Centre (LTC) offers a wide array of supports for teaching and learning through one-on-one consultations, workshops, seminars, conferences as well as department and program curriculum design assistance.
It is a core goal of UVic that our students will experience inspired teaching. As a comprehensive research-intensive university, we aim to integrate innovative research into an engaging classroom and course experience that encourages creative problem solving and original thought. Our students consistently rank their learning experience among Canada's finest.
All instructors, whether regular faculty, sessional instructors or teaching assistants, are welcome to take part in any of the events sponsored by the Learning and Teaching Centre, and a visit to the centre's website or the centre itself (located in the Harry Hickman Building) will provide an introduction to current and future events. You are always welcome!

UVic and
university rankings
The University of Victoria is recognized annually as one of Canada's top universities by external surveys and UVic students alike.
Globe and Mail
UVic received an A- in the 2007 Globe and Mail's University Report Card on students' overall satisfaction with their university experience. UVic sent the Globe and Mail survey out to all its registered students, ensuring that the university's ratings were based on the opinions of its whole student body, not just those who registered with the Studentawards.com database as was the case in previous years.
UVic's campus environment and atmosphere received top marks as did its computing equipment, online resources, the library, and faculty's knowledge of subject matter. UVic's tolerance for diverse opinions and ideas also received an A-.
For more information visit the Globe and Mail website.
Maclean's
In 2007 UVic placed first out of the 11 comprehensive universities that participated in the annual Maclean's magazine rankings of Canadian universities. UVic placed second in its category in the amount of medical and science grants it attracts, and also scored high for its overall ability to attract research funding, support for its libraries and support for scholarships and bursaries.
Accountability
The University of Victoria is proud and grateful to benefit from significant support in the form of public funding, student tuition and private contributions. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of stewardship of these resources and our audited financial statements are publicly available. To ensure programming of the highest quality for our students, our faculty are evaluated annually, through students? teaching evaluations as well as by their department chair and dean. Departments are also subject to vigorous external review every five to seven years.
In addition, there are many ways in which the university provides a public accounting of its accomplishments and progress in fulfilling its mission. We invite you to share our pride in following this progress, much of which is documented on the Office of the President's website.
